Kari Huhtamo and Lucien den Arend were both born in 1943, during the second
world war. Huhtamo in Rovaniemi in Lapland, and den Arend In Dordrecht the
Netherlands. They met each other in Helsinki in the very early
nineteen nineties. Den Arend was planning to organize an exhibition
of Finnish artists in Holland and contacted Huhtamo. At the same time den
Arend was working out a plan to realize a sculpture park in the direct
vicinity of his studio and house in Zwijndrecht Holland. Combining both
initiatives, Huhtamo organized a group of sculptors and painters from
Finland. These were the painters Jorma Hautala, Matti Kujasalo and the
scuptors Matti Peltokangas, Hannu Siren and Kari Huhtamo himself.

This exhibition,
OUTSIDE IN was opened in the OPAM
Sculpture Park in 1997. Inthat year den Arend started building websites.
His first was ww.st-ives.net where he
presented professional artists and their work. Kari Huhtamo's work was one
of the first to join St Ives net. And in 1999 he started buiding his
personal website www.denarend.com.
Ater they met Huhtamo asked den Arend to take over his personal site,
www.huhtamo.com.
